PIAS

RURAL MUSEUM

This museum was inaugurated in 2015 by initiative of the local parish council and with the devoted collaboration of Madalena Borralho, born in Pias and responsible for the exhibition options that are mostly based on the human aspect of the biographical objects that were collected and donated; objects that work as metaphors of a time long past and that is now revisited through documents and interviews. A place of sharing that reflects the history of the community of Pias, a space of learning and dialogue between generations, in which Memory is given priority.

EACH OBJECT TELLS A STORY

that interacts with real protagonists, a detailed portrait of everyday life in a rural location, encompassing dimensions that are not limited to farming tools and equipment. The domestic and social dimensions are represented in detail in displays that recreate the bedroom, dining rooms, various clothes and furnishings, the first mechanical aids for some chores and even the spaces for reading and leisure offered by the early societies to the bodies and minds exhausted by farm work. With those material testimonies, Pias' museum offers not only the information about the objects themselves (and the gratifying safekeeping of those testimonies for present and future generations) but also the atmosphere associated with the everyday life and know-how of the pieiros (residents of Pias) of past generations.
