ARTS CENTRE
A space located in the Vila Nova de S. Bento Parish Council (the entity that manages the centre) building that offers culture-related objects and services in four areas - reading, Internet, museum space and art gallery.
The Reading Space, the seed for the future Vila Nova de S. Bento library, offers the community access to periodicals – daily and weekly newspapers and generic magazines – and a collection of books, which can be read in the Reading Space itself or taken home.
The improved Internet Space now offers three workstations with a larger workspace and greater privacy. The use of this space requires a user card that can be obtained from the on-site attendant.
THE ETHNOGRAPHIC COLLECTION WAS ALSO RESTRUCTURED
the pieces are now arranged according to their original function, which led to the creation of illustrative areas devoted to activities that have already disappeared or are at risk. The pieces were donated by the population (agricultural implements, objects related to the production of olive oil and cheese, household items and costumes) and there are also some historical-architectural elements and a tombstone from the Roman period. The goal of this space is to preserve this collection of physical vestiges, final testimonies of what it was like to live and work in Vila Nova de S. Bento. They are the mark of a rurality that, although still unquestionable, is now lived in quite a different way.

The Art Gallery, a space recently created that completes the centre’s previous cultural offer, plans to start a cycle of exhibitions to show the work of the local artists, whatever their form of expression. According to the Parish Council of Vila Nova de S. Bento, it will also welcome other artists from outside the parish: "those who want to share with us their art, their way of seeing the world and living life".
